"Stella Copernicana" to the Library’s patron 2007-12-20

During the ceremonial Christmas Eve and New Year’s meeting of the managerial staff Cereal Partners Poland Toruń-Pacific - attended by Mr Piotr Całbecki, Speaker of the Kujawy-Pomorze Provincial Parliament - 10 employees were awarded the honorary title EMPLOYEE of YEAR 2007. Wojciech B. Sobieszak, President CPP Toruń-Pacific, was awarded the prestige statuette of “Stella Copernicana” No. 1 - funded by the Copernicus Library in Toruń, for his multi-year patronage of special collections of the aforementioned Library. The statuette was personally given by Ms Teresa Szymorowska, Director of the Provincial Public Library - the Copernicus Library, and by Prof. Dr Hab. Ireneusz Mikołajczyk, Chapter Member of the “Stella Copernicana” Award. During that ceremonial meeting, the words of goodbye were said to Ms Wanda Hałas - who goes into retirement.

Erin Keefe has become the first laureate of the International Violin Competition “Karol Szymanowski im memoriam” – Toruń 2007. During the final concert, this American young woman received the main prize of 10’000 dollars, funded by the Ministry of Culture, as well as the statuette of Copernican astrolabe whose founder is the firm of Cereal Partners Poland Toruń-Pacific.

During the XV Edition’s final of the European Medal, the flakes of Nestlé Fitness, offered by Cereal Partners Poland, received the European Medal. Nestlé Fitness is a well-known brand of breakfast flakes manufactured from wholegrain wheat, which are very popular not only in Europe, particularly with ladies who care for having a slim figure. CPP Toruń-Pacific launched Nestlé Fitness onto the Polish market in February 2002. At present, Nestlé Fitness flakes are available in four variants: with fruit, with chocolate, with yogurt, and in the basic version without any additives. In Poland, there has been increasing the interest in wholegrain cereal products, as they contain relatively small quantities of fats, especially saturated fats, they are a good component of the low-cholesterol diet, as well as helpful at keeping a proper weight of the body.

In October, three years have passed since the Board of Directors CPW created the Central Europe Region, entrusting Wojciech B. Sobieszak with the mission of managing said region. The structure of Cereal Partners Central Europe is the market of eight countries including: Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, where 90 million people live. The receipts from sales in CE Region constitute about 10% of the CPW global turnover. Toruń is the capital city of the region. Marek Michalik, Assistant Regional Director CPW Central Europe coordinates the activities carried out in the region.

The meeting, which was attended not only by entrepreneurs and the guest but also by numerous members of parliament seeking their re-election, took place at the Hotel Spichrz in Toruń on 8th October.

130th anniversary of Voluntary Fire Brigade at Lubicz 2007-08-18

On Saturday of 18 August, at Lubicz Dolny, celebrations were held related to the 130th anniversary of local unit of the Voluntary Fire Brigade. The Lubicz Voluntary Fire Brigade has become an inherent part of not only the history of Lubicz but also of the Pomorze region. It is one of the longest acting units of Voluntary Fire Brigade operating in the Pomorze region. On the anniversary’s occasion, the Chief Board of Voluntary Fire Brigades’ Union awarded the local unit with the Honorary Medal bearing the name of Bolesław Chomicz, an outstanding Polish fireman, community activist, and creator of the interwar Union of Voluntary Fire Brigades.

Michał Kwiatkowski (Toruń Cycling Club Pacific) gained, on Saturday 21 July, the title of European Junior Champion in the joint-start race. At the finishing line in Sofia, the World Cup’s leader raised his hands in a gesture of victory. The European Championships of junior and young competitors in Sofia will for sure became embedded in the memory of cycling funs in Poland. The white-red competitors gained there the first historical medals in juniors’ category, and additionally in all the colours. Two of the medals gained Michał Kwiatkowski, the first-year junior of the Toruń Cycling Club Pacific. On 25 July, at the sponsor’s seat, a press conference was held, during which the Campion received congratulations from, among others, Wojciech B. Sobieszak, President CPP Toruń-Pacific, a company being the Club’s main sponsor since year 1994.

On Saturday, during the Great Summer Gala of the Business Center Club, the best Polish firms, which have won the statuettes “Leader of Polish Business” and maintained in the course of consecutive years their market position as well as very good financial results, were honoured with the Diamonds to said golden statuettes. Among the honoured enterprises was the firm of Cereal Partners Poland Toruń-Pacific, which received the fifth Diamond to its golden statuette “Leader of Polish Business”. The gala event took place at Służewiec in Warsaw.

Andrzej Kaszta, who - since May - is director of the Fiscal Control Office in Bydgoszcz, was reassuring the businessmen, members of the Toruń Lodge Business Center Club, that the FCO’s priority is to prosecute tax criminals, but not to harass by means of fiscal controls the honest entrepreneurs. He also assured that even if the office controllers find any cases of incorrectness in tax declarations, the imposing of penalties would rather be an extremity. After all, there is existing the institution of tax declaration’s correction which the entrepreneur can submit and cover any possible tax underpayments. Not only tax issues were discussed at the Lodge. Zbigniew Fiderewicz, Deputy-Mayor of Toruń, as well as Barbara Sroka, Mayor’s Plenipotentiary, presented the state of Toruń’s preparations aimed at running for the honorary title of the European Capital of Culture in year 2016.

CPP Toruń-Pacific is one of the most effective Polish companies. It has been placed on the 2nd position among the industrial firms on the ROCE ranking list published by the “Manager Magazin”. That ranking list, comprising only the 100 most effective Polish companies, is created in cooperation with the consulting firm of Kolaja & Partners, as a result of the financial reports’ analysis of the 500 biggest firms operating in Poland. A decisive factor determining the position on said ranking list is the value of ROCE (Return on Capital Employment) index, showing the return ratio versus the engaged capital. The ROCE index depends on numerous factors, but first of all on the quality of management and its effectiveness.

CPP Toruń-Pacific has joined in the Toruń celebrations of the Environment Protection World Day by means of funding some young trees and conifers which will decorate the green squares situated around the Old Town. On the eve of the Environment Protection World Day, several most splendid plants were planted by Michał Zaleski, Mayor of Toruń, Waldemar Przybyszewski, Chairman of the Town Council, and Wojciech B. Sobieszak, President of CPP Toruń-Pacific. They will grow at the junction of Chełmińska St. and Czerwona Droga St. just in front of the town’s only multiplex. Trees and bushes founded by CPP Toruń-Pacific in the past years decorate now Philadelphia Boulevard, a square at the “Concertina” building, as well as the Vistula’s Common Land.

It was for the eleventh time that the daily of “Gazeta Pomorska” announced results of the ”Golden-100 Ranking List of Kujawy-Pomorze Province”. Wojciech B. Sobieszak, CPP President, was represented by Jarosław Kordalski, Sales Director – Board Member, who received the relevant Certificate of Distinction from the hands of Marek Trzebiatowski, President of Gazeta Pomorska Media group. Jarosław Kordalski stepped twice onto the stage, as CPP Toruń-Pacific was also ranked among the biggest exporters. At the top of principal ranking list, which is elaborated basing on the analysis of economic indexes, there appeared the group of Mondi Packaging Paper Świecie SA.

This year’s edition of the Probaltica Festival started - like every year - on 1st May, which nota bene is the birthday of Henryk Giza, the Festival’s creator and also its director. During the inaugural concert, which was performed between the walls of Fosa Staromiejska [Old-Town Moat], resounded was the opera of Bolesław the Brave by Ludomir Różycki with its libretto by Stanisław Wyspiański. The Festival is held under the patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Polish Republic, Minister of Culture, Speaker of the Provincial Parliament, as well as Mayor of Toruń. This question is going to be answered as a result of the research carried out by scientists of the Nicholas Copernicus University together with the magistracy. The daily of Gazeta Wyborcza is asking politicians, businessmen and readers about the future of Toruń airport. In this discussion, comments have also been presented by Wojciech B. Sobieszak, President CPP Toruń-Pacific, whose air travels on board jet-liners during the year 2006 covered as many as 29’375 miles. In his article, Wojciech B. Sobieszak writes the following, among others: “If we dream about having a possibility to fly soon from Toruń Airport to Heathrow, I am afraid that it is rather a fantasy”.

The plaques commemorating two eminent founders of the Fine Arts Faculty at the Nicholas Copernicus University, Prof. Bronisław Jamontt and Prof. Tymon Niesiołowski, were unveiled at the Faculty’s building in Sienkiewicza Street, in Toruń. It could not have been possible without the support of this undertaking from the side of Cereal Partners Poland Toruń-Pacific. This company, together with the Town Office of Toruń, have covered the cost of casting the plaques designed by artists who are lecturers at the Faculty: DrHab Andrzej Borcz and DrHab Alicja Majewska.

What should be done to revive economic development in the Kujawy-Pomorze Province? How to retain here the young and educated people? What should be a good mark of this Region? These, as well as other questions, were answered by Piotr Całbecki, Speaker of the Kujawy-Pomorze Provincial Parliament during his meeting at the Toruń Lodge of Business Center Club. The meeting, which took place at the Hotel Spichrz on 5 February 2007, was attended by not only the entrepreneurs associated in the BCC but also by some Members of Parliament and officials of the local self-government institutions.

On Saturday evening (20 January 2007) at the Artus' Court of Toruń the local Rotarians and their friends had a good time at the annual, already the eleventh, Rotary Charity Ball. The evening star was Krystyna Giżowska, a pop-singer and performer of many unforgettable hits, “You have not been present for so many years” or “On the way to Fontainblau”, among others. The Hot Jazz Band led by Piotr Klimek played for dancing. Also some professional dancing pairs were performing on the stage.

The battue started, and shots thundered - 7 foxes and 2 wild boars fell dead. The last hunting in year 2006 of the “Capercaillie” Hunters’ Association gathered nearly all the hunters, members of said Association. The ceremonial kill took place at the stone-monument of the “Capercaillie” Hunters’ Association in the wild forest of Załachowo forestry within the Pałuki Region.
